MISSION FOR NEW MUSICALS: To create, nourish, and fully realize original musicals for aspiring lyricists, composers, and playwrights.

 

Bay Area Musicals (BAM), a professional theater company, strives to stimulate and inspire the San Francisco Bay Area community through high-caliber musical theater ranging from familiar classics to challenging new works, to produce professional musical theater at accessible ticket rates, and to engage the community through performance, outreach, and educational opportunities.

 

BAM has been the recipient of three San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critic’s Circle awards, a Theatre Bay Area award and nominations, and has received stellar reviews from the critics of Broadway World, Theatre World, Talkin’ Broadway, San Francisco Examiner, VMedia, Backstage, Bay Area Reporter, Daily Californian, For All Events, Theatre and Such, Theatrius, Playbill, San Francisco Chronicle, San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critic’s Circle, and Theatre Bay Area.

 

In its award, the San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle awards saluted BAM as “an outstanding example of an emerging theater organization. Now in their fourth season, they maintain a high standard of professionalism in their work and have attracted some of the Bay Area’s top musical theatre performers to their critically-acclaimed and audience-pleasing productions. MATTHEW McCOY

Founder & Artistic Director Matthew McCoy is proud to now call San Francisco home. He is the recipient of the 2019 Annette Lust Emerging Talent Award, awarded to a theatre organization that has significant impact on Bay Area Theatre.

 

Matthew brings thirty years of extensive knowledge of Musical Theatre, having received his undergraduate degree from Coastal Carolina University in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre, and has performed, directed, choreographed, and produced plays, musicals, cabarets, and major production shows nationally and internationally. He has worked professionally in the regional theatre circuit as well as in Las Vegas, New York, Florida, New Hampshire, Ohio, Paris, London, and Shanghai, China.
